On-squadron activities

  Back

A lot of Air Cadet websites seem to show what the Air Cadets is and what it offers.

The aim of this site is not to promote the Air Cadets as such, but to (hopefully) show you squadron life and how much fun you can have, or, if you are a parent an idea of what your children could be doing, while being trained in a 'military' youth organisation. However, this said, cadet training is not always like the rest of this site makes out, these are just some of the vast opportunities the cadets get while they are members. Normally, cadets will arrive at their HQ: do some drill, work on projects, have inspections, hear about what's going on, do classwork on a range of subjects (set-up and taught by the squadron staff and NCO's) and have talks from invited guests among other things.

Also the Air Cadets is not just about young people, it could not operate without adults to instruct, assist with the training, fund-raising, the list goes on. So if you are 20 or over and feel you have something to offer in any way, a hobby, interest, skill or just want to help young people get a chance to do something different, get in touch. It doesn't matter what your background is, it doesn't have to be military. The fun doesn't stop just because you aren't a cadet!!

The age range for joining is 13 - 17.

The Air Cadets is an equal opportunity organisation.

Below are a few pictures showing various things the cadets will do when not venturing forth on trips, outings or camps...

Before the cadets can become first class classification, they must complete a class work syllabus studying the history of the ATC and RAF, basic navigation, and Initial Expedition Training (IET).

A note from the webmaster ...

I would just like to remind our visitors... since all the cadets give me their work to add to our website, I get to read and hear some really interesting stories (having not been there personally). Their "Adventures" sound like so much fun and yet, as examples, Annual Camps cost in the region of £40 and week trips to Windermere or North Wales for outward bound type activities about £70! I remember being offered the chance to go on many trips like this with my school (as it had many connections and many chances for outings) but they would cost something like £500!!

You can clearly see the opportunities our cadets get, and I can't even begin to tell you about other trips they have been on, although you can see some here. This is why I would recommend young people enrolling into the Air Training Corps. As a member of our committee, (but also as a logical thinker!) the sheer opportunities available for such a small cost are not to be missed!
