Fremington Camp

October 2007

Green camp 2007 was hosted at Fremington on the coast of Devon. The week kicked off at Trafford house in Basildon the usual pick up point for all major camps. Cadets from all over the district met up on a cold frosty morning in October to start all the fun. We gathered at 9:30 am we departed at 10 the general loading of all the kit would appear that we were going away for ever, not a week in Devon. As we departed for the long journey to the West Country we were all in high spirits. The many stops on the way were delaying the time to get to Fremington.

We arrived at the gates of Fremington at around 4 o’clock on Saturday afternoon. As the bus drove through Fremington we parked on the helipad. We were assigned to our billets and put into our flights. That night we unpacked and went to dinner and then visited the NAAFI for food and drinks. The rest of the week involved the various flights taking part in activities such as; field and military skills with flt hall the CO from stansted squadron, obstacle course, quad biking, archery, leadership and initiative skills, kayaking, hill walking and rifle shooting. I found green camp 07 very exciting it was a jammed pack week that was very enjoyable. The most enjoyable parts were meal times, NAAFI times and times with friends and enjoying the whole week. The week at Fremington soon came to an abrupt end the last night we were granted the privilege to use the NAFFI so we  could have the traditional  cadet disco this was lots of fun and we enjoyed it very much the next morning we had to make sure our billets were spotless cleaner than when we arrived. Warrant officer Cottie made sure that everything was in order before we could leave. As we gathered our kit and carried it all to the pick up point we were all sad that the week as over. The buses arrived and we left Fremington to face the long journey home but with most of us asleep we arrived back at Trafford house in Basildon to go home and sleep. Green Camp 07 was the best camp I have ever been on since I joined as a cadet.
