Cadet of the Year Interviews

In November last year, Sgt Gardner, and myself were put forward as our squadron’s nominations for Essex Wing cadet of the year. We had an interview with Wing Staff Officers about ourselves, the Air Force and the state of the world.

In December last year we found out that we had both made it through to the final 7 and could win any one of 3 awards. They are the Dacre Sword/Brooch nominations, Best Overall Cadet of the Wing, and the Lord Lieutenants Cadet. The interviews were conducted by Wing Commander Morell, OC Essex Wing, Squadron Leader Bridges, the Wing Admin Officer, and Mr Haden-Case, The Wing Chairman. These interviews were done on the same basis as the previous round with topics including the RAF, the ATC and us.

Last month the results were announced and there was EXCELLENT news for our squadron. Sgt Gardner had won the Lord Lieutenants Cadet and will be accompanying him to all sorts of official functions. The Lord Lieutenant for Essex is the Queens representative for the county. This means that Sgt Gardner will meet any official people from the Her Majesty downward.

I would like to say, on behalf of everybody at 1582, well done Kim and we are all very proud of you. You deserve everything that you want and you’re going to go all the way. Well done. I’m proud to call you my friend.
