Battle Of Britain Parade 2004
On the 19th Sep 2004, ourselves and 106 (Orsett Hundred) Sqn, took part in the annual Battle Of Britain Parade held in Grays town centre. This parade is organised by RAFA to honour the fallen heroes of that fateful summer of 1940. Other services that took part in the parade were the Essex Fire Service, Essex Police, and Essex Ambulance Service as well as RAFA and The Royal British Legion. The service was taken by 106's padre, with a reading from one of their cadets. There was, of course, the citation (led by Fl Lt Web O.C 106), the 2 minutes' silence and the wreath laying. 1582's wreath was laid by Cdt Kirsty Bourne. We were the second organisation to lay our presentation, after RAFA. This is unusual on a remembrance parade because the cadet service is normally after the adult services. This is because the ATC actually took part in the Battle of Britain. Cadets helped the ground crews to fill in the pot holes on the battle damaged air fields. After the service was done and the parade was over, everybody was invited back to the RAFA Club in London Rd. for drinks and food. Thank you to all the cadets who turned up and to the parents that provided transport to 106 and to the RAFA club.
