5-a-Side Football

On Sunday 27th Febuary 2005 we had 5 a-side football (inter-squadron) competition, for which we had to meet up at the church at 12.00. It's not often that we have something to do at cadets where we have a lay-in. We all turned up on time; Sgt Bagshaw and Cdts Hill, Costen, Stevenson and I. Well we all got there in the end and we had a few minutes to get warmed up, so we decided to have a kick around and then we were called for our first match. Our C.O. Mr Mortimer was our ref... We drew 1 all first off. The next round was 3-1 to the other sqn, then 3-0 to the other sqn! Then, again, it was 3-0 to them. I'm sure if I was in goal it would have been something like 12-0 to them but thanks to Sgt Bagshaw he kept it down to 3. We had a great team and even though we didn't win a game it was a great day out.

Cdt Meacham

Our 5 a side football team (Cdt Costen, Cdt Stevenson, Cdt Meacham, Cdt hill, and Sgt Bagshaw) all had to meet at the church where we talked about tactics and positions before we were transported by the CO, Mr price and Mrs Meacham to the "goals soccer centre" in Dagenham. Once we arrived at 'goals' we started to warm up on one of the pitches - practising shooting etc. Once the matches started the team was watching some of them to see how good our opposition was going to be. On our first match we won the toss and got kick off. The first half both teams played well leaving the score 0-0 half way. In the second half the opposing team switched goal keepers to improve their attacking and we went 1-0 down, however I managed to bend a shot from the wing into the corner in the last minute to end the score 1-1. Our other matches we lost consistently 3-0 except the Southend game, where we nearly scored early from a free kick which hit the inside of the post twice. Cdt Stevenson then grabbed an excellent pass from Sgt Bagshaw and slotted the ball in the bottom corner of the net which left the score 3-1. Southend then went on to win the whole competition. I'd like to thank the rest of the team for turning up and playing so well and our CO for managing us.
